Facts - Safe Navigation

The placement and design of the wind farm will ensure that the waters will continue to be ideal for passage of large commercial vessels. The turbines will be placed away from any commercial shipping lanes. There will be no impact on coastal boating within 15 miles from any shoreline of Lake Michigan.

The area will be well marked with navigational lights. These lights are easily visible to boaters and will not be visible from shore. Tower lights will also alert small aircraft pilots to the presence of the turbines. High voltage cables, some of which are currently in the lake presently for the transmission of electricity, will be used to connect the towers and transmit the electricity to shore. These cables will be located on the lakebed and do not create an obstacle to navigation. Appropriate authorities, including the Coast Guard and Federal Aviation Administration, will review and approve the project before construction.
