Benefits - Environmental

There are numerous environmental benefits to having the Radial Wind Farm, including the elimination of three million metric tons of carbon dioxide, 36.8 million pounds of soot forming sulfur dioxide, 22.5 million pounds of smog forming nitrogen oxide (which causes acid rain), and 485 pounds of the neurological toxicant mercury that is poisoning fish in the Great Lakes.

Air pollution harms the Great Lakes.

The levels of these pollutants in the fresh water are harming the Great Lakes' ecosystem, shorting freezing periods and significantly increasing the amount of harmful byproduct. The only way to reverse these effects is to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the air. This will provide a healthier ecosystem and begin to reverse the effects of global warming.

Bird migration will be protected.

The location of the wind farm in Lake Michigan's Mid-Lake Plateau region is considered to be a natural barrier to migration for birds. Birds naturally fear the depth and size of the lake during habitat and migration, losing their sense of direction as they travel off the coastal territories. By locating the Radial Wind Farm in the center of Lake Michigan, birds will avoid contact with the wind farm because of the natural barrier imposed by the location of the Mid-Lake Plateau.
